Finding purpose through the side door

We are meaning-seeking animals. This means we can sometimes find ourselves looking for our purpose in our lives and communities. It’s simple if we’re just looking to increase what’s ours, raise our status, and beat our competitors into submission. But when we value healing — when we are looking to mend the world with our lives — finding our mission is a more complicated process. Sometimes finding purpose asks us to be alchemists — taking a painful, destructive, or just unsatisfying situation and finding, in that, our call to wholeness. We’ll take some time to consider this for our own lives and explore stories of alchemists current and past.
