RE Choices

Starting January 9 we are trying something a little different upstairs. Introducing RE Choices, an adapted format for Sunday morning faith development designed to serve all ages. Anyone 5 and up is invited to gather in room 205 for an opening circle and an intro to the day’s theme. Following the circle, the following spaces are open to explore the theme:

Story Corner – books, puppets, writing materials

Active Games and Puzzles Room

Art Room

Meditation Room

Instructions will be available in each room outlining the day’s options, and all materials are set out ahead of time. Adults are encouraged to work alongside the children in the spaces and get to know each other. There will be a set of guides each Sunday who will move through the spaces and the hallway, ensuring everyone is safe and following our covenant. At 11:15, everyone is encouraged to clean up their spaces and gather where they are for the brief closing circle activity posted in each space.

Simultaneously, grades 5-7 have the option to join this format or to meet as a young youth group, depending on volunteer advisors. Grades 8-12 will continue to meet as a senior youth group in the library downstairs for accessibility reasons. Adults have the option to join the children upstairs or to attend the adult faith development offering of the day.

It is my sincere hope that this experiment moves us closer as a congregation to integrating learning across the ages and builds lasting relationships between adults and children. I encourage you to join on January 9 to see what it is all about, especially adults who aren’t leading the program!

Ideally staffing would be 2 adults in young youth each week, 2 adults with Senior Youth each week and 3 guides for our RE Choices program. So, here is my request…to make this happen, I need YOU! Would you consider giving one Sunday (or more) a month to the faith development program in 2022?

Please email me at dlfd@liveoakuu.org if you are willing to give your time in this way and witness personal and community growth as you help build a strong faith foundation with our children and youth.

See you on Sunday,

Carrie, DLFD
